Daily, dust, bacteria, and mites accumulate in our mattresses which can cause health and well-being problems. Therefore, it is essential to maintain proper hygiene in bedding and good mattress cleaning. All this is simpler than it seems because we all have certain products at home that are very useful when cleaning and, above all, when it comes to difficult stains such as those on the mattress.
Vinegar
The most effective vinegar is white, both for urine and sweat stains. It is used using a damp cloth with vinegar and rubbing the affected area of the mattress.
lemon and water
It is ideal for mattress stains such as urine, sweat, and vomit. It is usually mixed with water and is effective in permanently removing odors from the mattress.
Baking soda
Baking soda has many uses, such as cleaning tough stains on mattresses. This home remedy is made by mixing baking soda with warm water, thus creating a paste that is quite effective for removing stains on the bed.
Peroxide
Although it may not seem like, it is the most effective remedy against blood stains. It is applied directly on the mattress stain, and the affected area is rubbed with the help of a cloth or cotton.
Detergent
When home remedies do not work, you have to resort to detergent; the best way to clean mattress stains is liquid. The affected area should be rubbed with a damp cloth with a little detergent and water. It should be allowed to act a bit. And finally, it is cleaned with water and dried well.
How to clean the mattress
There are different types of cleaning that can help keep the clean mattress longer:
Daily cleaning or maintenance
This cleaning consists of airing the room daily, shaking the sheets very well before making the bed, and changing them weekly. When the sheets are to be changed, the surface of the mattress should be vacuumed so that dust does not accumulate, facilitating the cleaning of the bed and preventing the accumulation of mites. If you sprinkle baking soda before vacuuming and rub it well, you will get more effective cleaning.
Deep cleaning
For deep mattress cleaning, the main thing is to vacuum the bed, as in maintenance cleaning. Next, foam is made by mixing a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent in 1 liter of icy water. Mix everything well until you get the foam to rub with it, using a sponge, the mattress making circular movements. Once this process is finished, let the mattress air dry or if you prefer, help yourself with a dryer. This type of mattress cleaning would be recommended once every six months, taking advantage of the rotation of the mattress.
remove odors
Odors are one of the most annoying at bedtime. The reason for foul smells on the mattress is usually bacteria and germs. To put an end to bad smells, it is best to sprinkle a little baking soda on each weekly cleaning, spread it over the surface of the mattress, and vacuum. This helps clean the mattress and eliminate foul odors. If the aromas are intense and lasting, you should sprinkle the baking soda on the bed’s surface, cover it and leave it to act overnight. The following day, vacuum the mattress and spray it with some disinfectant.
